Rb1 – Rb 2 – Rb 3 Coal in the South African

RB1, RB2, and RB3 are the primary grades of coal in South Africa, primarily classified by their calorific value (energy content) and impurity levels (sulfur, ash, and moisture).

RB1 is premium coal with the highest energy content and lowest impurities, making it ideal for high-efficiency power generation and export markets.
RB2 has a slightly lower calorific value and moderate impurities, suitable for a range of domestic power plants and industrial processes like cement and chemical manufacturing.
RB3 has the lowest energy content and highest impurities, commonly used for domestic heating and smaller-scale industrial operations where cost-effectiveness is a key factor.

Peas A Grade – Peas B Grade – Duff A Grade

In South Africa, A Grade Peas and B Grade Peas refer to specific sizes of coal (around 10-25mm for Peas), with A Grade being higher quality (less ash, higher energy) than B Grade, while Duff is a finer, smaller coal size (like 0-9mm or 0-6mm), often blended with peas (called Peaduff) or sold separately for different heating needs, all crucial for power and industry, with specs varying by mine.

A Grade Peas: Premium, consistent size (e.g., 10-25mm), low ash, high energy, ideal for efficient burning.
B Grade Peas: Slightly smaller/less uniform than A Grade, potentially higher ash/moisture but still good quality.
Duff: Very fine coal (e.g., 0-9mm), often mixed with peas (Peaduff) or used for different firing systems.
Other Sizes: You also see Grains (6-12mm), Small Nuts (20-40mm), and Large Nuts (40-60mm).
